British Columbia - 1975
“NDP Premier, David Barrett has called a snap election three years after he led the party to a comfortable victory at his first attempt. The task may be more difficult this time as the opposition are less split three ways; the Social Credit party, refreshed by a new leader, have already persuaded Liberal, NDP and Progressive Conservative MLAs to join their ranks. Bill Bennett, son of WAC Bennett is the new Social Credit Leader. There are new leaders also for the Liberals (Gordon Gibson) and the Progressive Conservatives (George Wallace). To counter Barrett’s openly Socialist NDP, Bennett had shifted the Social Credit party towards the centre ground.”

Wales National Assembly - 2007
“The ruling Welsh Labour party have lost their majority in the Welsh Assembly after one Labour AM left to become an independent. This was embarrassing for the party. The prospect of Lab-Plaid coalition looms in this election, as Labour’s popularity has dropped slowly but steadily. Once the new term begins, the election winner(s) will have more powers in the Assembly than ever before, thanks to the Government of Wales Act 2006. Nationalist party Plaid Cymru, have complained the increased devolved powers don’t go far enough. After a disappointing 2005 General election, Plaid hope for better results. The Conservatives are on course to hurt Labour’s vote and for their best result since the Assembly began. Meanwhile, the Lib Dems are looking stale as criticisms continue of their leader.”

Acadie - 2009
“The 2008 Federal Elections for the Parliament of Acadie returned to power the Parti Libéral, one seat short of a clear majority. The new government was unable to get its budget passed when the Acadie Solidaire, who held the balance of power, voted with the Parti Conservateur opposition. This has forced a new Federal Election, which gives an opportunity to both Libéral and Conservateur to win a majority. The Acadie Solidaire’s hope is to hold the balance of power. The Parti Vert hope to win a seat.”

“With the Iraq War dragging on and a large majority of Americans disapproving of President Bush’s performance, the 2006 Senate election offers a major opportunity for the Democrats. But the size of the GOP majority and strong candidate recruiting by Republicans make this election hard to predict.”

“The minority Conservative government has fallen and the foundation has been laid for what promises to be another challenging race for all contenders. With the chance of a Conservative majority being greater than ever, the renewed Liberal machine will be back in full gear while the New Democrats will be fighting to hold what ground they gained when the Grits were at their weakest.”
